As model railroaders, many of us have a keen interest in historical preservation through the recreation of environments on our layouts. That's why I thought that this article on 3ders.org would be of interest to model railroaders.
Google and CyArk have used 3D technology to capture data that can be used to model historically significant archaeological sites. They are making it available for free to anyone so that they can use it in any way they want.
Just imagine being able to use this technology to capture data on sites that you'd like to recreate for your own layouts? The data could be transferred to a 3D printer for reproduction. Pretty cool!!
