Modeling Polycrystalline Structures

Image of meta-crystal modelBoy, things just keep getting more and more interesting in the 3D printing technology world!

Case in point: researchers studying the lattice structure (the way atoms are arranged to form a solid marterial) of 3D printed objects have been able to print enlarged models of polycrystalline materials called meta-crystals. By doing so, they've been able find ways to gain structural strength up to 7 x's greater than standard lattices just by changing some geometry! And 3D printing is the only way to create these models due to these geometries!
